Yard Vibes Summer Edition in MC Theater With the premiere screenings of two unique sports documentaries

Amsterdam, August 1, 2012 – Caribbean Creativity and Sound System Culture are proud to host the Summer edition of Yard Vibes in MC Theater (Westergasterrein) on Saturday August 18, 2012 in celebration of the London Olympics and the 50th anniversary of Jamaica’s independence. The festive event will center around Dutch premiere screenings of Built to Last and Usain Bolt: The Fastest Man Alive, two fascinating documentaries that explore the unprecedented success of Jamaican and other Caribbean athletes on the world stage. The evening will start with a Caribbean bbq and close with a massive reggae-dancehall afterparty featuring various sound systems, including our special guest sound Herb-A-Lize It.

The 45-minute long documentary Built to Last follows the amazing men and women competing in a range of Olympic, Paralympic and non-Olympic sports in the Caribbean. British Filmmaker Sanna Allsopp tells the story of how some of these individuals progressed to become household names. She look at well-known sports people and the up and coming in a range of sports, such as athletics, boxing, football, martial arts, swimming, and cycling. The film asks, ‘What is it about this region that produces so many incredible sportsmen and women?’ The story takes us across seven different Caribbean islands to look for the answer. Featuring interviews, with Wyclef Jean, Professor George Lamming, Asafa Powell, Shelly Ann Fraser and Yohan Blake and many more.

The 60-minute long documentary Usain Bolt: The Fastest Man Alive is an intimate portrait of athlete Usain Bolt, the fastest man in the world. In the London 2012 Olympics, Bolt will try to retain his three Olympic titles and his three world records. On the night of the 100m final, over four billion viewers will watch him as he attempts to enter the history books by becoming the first man ever to retain the 100m gold medal. French producer-director Gaël Leiblang secured exclusive access to Usain Bolt, and has been filming up close and personal with him over the last 12 months as he prepares for the biggest race of his life. Made with his complete co-operation, it features Bolt in his home environment away from the cameras. It also features all the people who have helped get Bolt to the top of his profession – his relatives, his best friends and the Jamaican national coach.
