Kingston, Jamaica: May 17, 2012 – Students at Holy Trinity High School in Kingston now have access to a new, fully functioning computer lab thanks to lottery technology company GTECH Corporation’s After School Advantage Programme. Students who benefitted from this new lab participated in a ceremony
where school officials, members of the GTECH Jamaica team and Minister of Education, the Hon. Ronald Thwaites officially opened the new facility.

The occasion signaled a monumental shift in the schools culture. Sadpha Bennett, Principal at the institution emphasized the gravity of the GTECH donation, stating, “Most of the students here only have access to computers and internet when they are at school, so this donation means more of our students will benefit from this life changing exposure..” He went further to state that relationships with corporate companies and the school serve to improve more than just the physical structure but also the psychology of the students and the staff. “It is good to develop relationships with corporate partners because we have learnt a lot from GTECH as it relates to how we at Holy Trinity should socialize,” he He went further to underline a crucial area of concern that GTECH’s donation will help to remedy, stating, “When we are faced with the major challenge to motivate our students, contributions like that of GTECH’s serve to enhance the morale of the school environment and by extension inspire the

Ann-Dawn Young Sang, Country Manager for GTECH Jamaica spoke to the company’s commitment in making a difference in the lives of the youths of Jamaica. “We see the exposure of children to modern information communication technologies not as a privilege but as a right that each child living in this age
must have, if he or she is to compete on a level playing field.” Her sentiments were shared by the Minister of Education, the Hon. Ronald Thwaites, who while motivating the students of Holy Trinity, stated, “The internet is the world’s library. Use the facility as a resource to make yourselves the very best you can be. Strive to be the very best.”

He thanked GTECH for their example of social entrepreneurship, lauding the company for its gesture of generosity and sense of purpose, in making the donation to foster the expansion and the further enablement of the school and the minds of the students.

The new computer lab at Holy Trinity High School marks the expansion of GTECH Jamaica’s initiative to use the company’s strengths in technology to build links to bring students in Jamaica access to the tools they will need to compete in a global information economy. Since 2006, GTECH Jamaica has supported locally based education initiatives by donating computers and other high tech specialised equipment to schools and colleges throughout the country.

About Holy Trinity High School

Holy Trinity High School, formerly Holy Trinity Comprehensive High, is a Catholic institution that was
established by the Franciscan Sisters in the late 1940’s. The school was renamed after the Education
Ministry upgraded all Comprehensive High Schools in 2000. The school currently has a population of
approximately 1,700 students and 119 teachers and administrative staff. It operates a two shift system.
